Creating an alarm rule

  1. Go to the Alarms module, select the “New Alarm” button in the top right corner.

       


  1. Alarm creation page opens up.

        


3. There are 5 sections to create an alarm

  1. Alarm Details - Mandatory

    1. Alarm Names to be added in such a way that the alarm can be recognized by viewing the alarm. 

    2. Description to act as additional text to understand the alarm 

    3. For severity, click on the dropdown and select required severity of the alarm. Then click “Next”.

Note :  Users can add their own severity in the Alarms settings page for specific use cases

  1. Condition - Mandatory

 In this section we need to choose the devices and then choose the condition for the alarm to get triggered.


  1. Add Devices to alarm

Click on the Add device button, a modal appears


  • For connection type, select the type of connection from Wired, Wireless, Gateway, Tab

  • For device category, choose from the dropdown given. 

  • Choose Device Type from the dropdown.

  • Optional : Select location, where device is to be added. 

  • Optional : Add tags to filter devices

  • Select devices required to be added from the list given below. Then, click “Save”. 

  • Selected devices list shows up 


  1. Add Conditions to alarm

      Click on the Add Condition button, a modal appears


  • Choose “Condition” from the dropdown - Read this article for more

  • Choose “Parameter” of the device to monitor from the dropdown

  • Then, select “Operator” from the dropdown 

  • Provide the required threshold/ counter/ flapping values 

  • Click on the “Add” button to save the condition.

  •  If required, multiple conditions can also be added using the same process.

  • In case of multiple conditions, Alarms can be triggered in any one of the two cases

    • All conditions match

    • Any one condition matched

  • Click on the Next button

  1. Schedule - Optional

  • Select the days when the alarm trigger should be considered and sent to the user.

  • Users can also select all or exclude weekends, according to requirement. 

  • This option allows users to limit alarms to certain time of a day, Eg: Creating an alarm for occupancy in night time.

  1. Trigger alarm can be set to All day or Custom time.

  1. For custom time, select on the radio button, choose the desired time slots for triggering alarm. 

  1. Then, click “Next”.

Note: By default, we recommend Alarms to be enabled 24x7 for all critical and major severity cases


     4. Action - Mandatory

Primary Notification

  • Alerts can be sent via SMS and Email. To choose the desired alert, select on the checkboxes. 

  • To send alerts, select users from the user list given. 

  • Users may select more than one user. 

  • Selected users can also unsubscribe from receiving mail for an alarm, if permission is selected while creating the alarm. 

  • Click “Next”.

              

 

    5. Status - Optional

      Status can be selected as active or inactive, by clicking on the radio buttons.  


      When inactive any alarms will not be triggered.

      


       Click on “Save”. Alarm is created. 



      You can check the progress of the alarm addition process using the Preview section in the right of the screen. A quick preview of the data selected will be displayed in the section.
