How is asset downtime calculated?
Downtime refers to the period during which an asset is not operational or available due to complete shutdown, malfunction, or unavailability due to planned maintenance.
For calculating downtime:
When the asset goes down, the start timestamp is noted
When the asset is up, the end timestamp is noted
The difference between end and start time will give the downtime duration for that instance
Similarly, when this activity is carried out continuously during an asset lifecycle, we will get the cumulative downtime for an asset
This calculation will give you the downtime period in days, hours, minutes, or seconds, depending on the level of precision required.
How does the system know when a particular Asset is down/ up:
- The system is dependent on the user to change Asset Statuses to know when the state changes
- If the Asset status is marked as Inactive, Under Maintenance, Retired or any custom status that has been attributed as downtime, then the system marks the device as down and calculates the downtime
- As soon as the Asset status is marked as Active or any custom status that has been attributed as uptime, then the system marks the device as Up and running

Note : It is recommended to change the Asset Status while performing scheduled maintenance activities/ breakdown repairs.
